Week 4 - Solo Tavel, The quiet noisiness of my own thoughts

The Adventure Continues

4 Weeks, 5000 miles, 7 ferries, 2 overnight ferries, 4 Canadian Provinces, 12+ US States, and let’s just say more than 1 pint of beer. The trip isn’t over yet and I’m having fun motorcycling around the mountains and small towns of North Carolina. It’s nice to be a bit closer to home. No rush, but slowly making my way in the direction of home.

Solo Travel The quiet noisiness of my own thoughts

The start of this week marked a transition in this journey. I turned toward home and began heading in that general direction. I also returned to the USA, which was a good feeling. While my goal is to be home within the a week or so. it’s open-ended. It’s that freedom and flexibility that I’ve been longing for on this journey. The trip so far has been built around ferry schedules and Jeanette’s flights. It was a very reasonable and worthwhile set of compromises to be made that allowed us to have a great time together. Jeanette’s made of tough stuff and it was a remarkable time traveling together on the motorcycle. I’m glad now to be on this new phase and the track of solo travel. It opens things up to a greater range of possibilities and allows serendipity to play a bigger role on this phase of the journey. I’m realizing those benefits in the small towns I’m stumbling upon the last several days.

Traveling solo allows the quiet noisiness of my own thoughts to work their magic. It’s a meditative experience that I talked about on my prior journey. It opens my mind to a field of possibilities, and it allows sparks of inspiration, like catching lightening in a bottle, to find their way into my consciousness. I’m looking forward to the coming days and I’m grateful for the continuing adventure.
